Sadly mental illness, drugs, abuse, depression and deliberate contact allow demons to wreck havoc be it subtle whisperings to reinforce a sense of worthlessness, to driving a person over the edge. Demons normally play a long, slow subtle game destroying the individual, family and society.Frank's academic background lends credence to Kevin's story and he was lucky to have a doctor who knew and believed things about spiritual problems. One has to ask if the doctors and nurses who believe their training is correct in that there is a spiritual component to man acted on that knowledge would they demand change or be locked up or be drummed out of the profession.

Great book !! I read it more than once. We Christians need to open our eyes!! Stop pretending evil doesn't exist
This is one Dad's experience with his son- who has a family history of this type of behavior. While I appreciate the Dad's situation and viewpoint, he fails to make any real conclusion as to what the Psychiatric Community doesn't want you to know. He does tell his open ended story in an interesting manner - but that's about it - he seems to waffle on his own final assessment. Personally, I believe the son is possessed and in need of deliverance and, re the family history, this may be a generational curse. Please, Christians, PRAY prayers of deliverance with and for your families. I have seen the miraculous effects of prayer first hand, many times. )
Readable with biblical support for thesis. This father's love for his son and his enduring hope are inspirational . The use of the word "antidotal" for "anecdotal" was distracting.
This book was compelling in so many ways. A deep knowledge of the intricacies involved with mental illness and spiritual forces is evident and thought provoking. However, the thread that was the brightest in this tapestry portrait of a father dealing with the mental illness of a beloved child, is his unfailing acknowledgement that not all is understood, but without a doubt God is faithful and in control. Watching our children hurt is the hardest job a parent has, but Dr. Augustus and his wife exhibit the kind of faith and dedication we all strive to achieve. Very inspirational. I highly recommend reading and sharing this book!
I was skeptical...for 3 pages. Then, this sad but poignant story emerges far too close to one I presently living. It was a blessing to read and a forewarning to the unbelieving and pseudo-scientific community. Pills may be fine but they only smother the symptoms.
POSSESSION is an educated, sensible approach to an issue little understood by modern,humanistic psychiatry. God and the devil are cast aside on the pages of psychiatric journals, and writers who teach that humankind is more than a biological machine are laughed at. But Frank Augustus' experience with supernatural phenomena, far from being the hocus-pocus of a county fair sideshow, is genuine. He deals with demonic influence in mental illness, not with ritualistic exorcism, but with an approach squarely in line with the Bible's teaching on this touchy subject.
This book was heart breaking to read. It has made me realize how much we need to pray unceasingly for Kevin and those whose lives are very similar. The author was insightful and in his descriptions of the whys and hows of Kevin's life.
We worship an all powerful God and I am trusting that He will answer my prayers for all the Kevins in this wicked world!
